History

This southern PA borough boasts all kinds of history, back to the 1700s. It was 1751 that the original warrants for the land were awarded to John Wallace who built the land up to where the city center is today. It was not until 1797 however, that his son actually came up with the entire layout of the town. The borough was named and incorporated in 1831 and received its name after the infamous General Anthony Wayne. This town is a memorable place for history buffs since it was the home to part of the Gettysburg Campaign. In fact, General Robert Lee took his troops right through town as they were retreating the battle.
